Kirsty F. Wilkinson
Professional Genealogist & Researcher in Archives
I began researching my own ancestry (a mixture of English, Scottish and Irish) when I was in my early 20s and soon developed a passion for family history. I increased my knowledge of genealogical sources through personal and formal study and in 2006 launched My Ain Folk to assist others with tracing their ancestors. Since then I have gained many hours of practical research experience in Scottish archives and record repositories and helped clients worldwide to discover their own family story.
I have a particular interest in palaeography (old handwriting) and these skills enable me to carry out research in pre-1700 records and to transcribe handwritten documents from the 1500s-present. Another specialisation is heir- or descendant-tracing and locating living relatives. I have successfully located heirs to estates on behalf of probate research firms in the UK, Europe and the US and enabled private clients to reconnect with long-lost cousins.
In addition to carrying out research professionally (and occasionally finding time to research my own ancestors) I write a blog discussing a variety of topics associated with family history and can be found ‘tweeting’ about genealogy as GenealogyGirl.
I look forward to assisting you with your research and to helping you discover more about your Scottish ancestors.
